How We Process
Your Scrap

Upon receipt of your package, your scrap is weighed, photographed and entered into our computerized refining flow system.

Your material will be properly melted before assay. Our expert processors will ensure that optimum melting techniques are used. Samples will be taken from your melted scrap and fire assayed to determine their precious metal content.

It is our goal to recover the highest possible amount of gold, silver, platinum and palladium from your scrap material. To accomplish this, our leading-edge laboratory offers a variety of analytical techniques that are capable of detecting even the smallest amounts of precious metals. You are paid for the Gold, Silver, Platinum and Palladium content of your shipment.

ANALYTICAL TECHNIQUES USED AT HOOVER & STRONG

XRF: X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF) is a non-destructive technique capable of determining the concentration of multiple elements within a sample. It is particularly useful for providing quantitative and qualitative results in a very short amount of time, but it is the least accurate of our 3 available techniques. Our XRF spectrometer cannot determine elements lighter than aluminum. The most accurate results are obtained from smooth, flat, homogenous samples.

FIRE ASSAY: Arguably the most accurate method for determining gold content, this ancient technique is still used today. A small amount of your sample undergoes a systematic thermal and chemical process to determine the concentration of precious metals. Samples must be homogenous for accuracy.
